Welcome to Simple Life of a Country Wife. I’m Amanda. I homeschool my two teenagers and I also just sent my oldest off to college (WHAT?!). I love Jesus. I have way more plaid shirts than any one person should have. I have a sweet tooth that just won’t quit. My daily latte is what keeps me sane.
***I know this is a blog about simple and frugal living, but before I get into that, I want to share with you that over on Instagram I share very different content. Over there I discuss breaking generational cycles, overcoming abandonment and rejection issues, and learning how to love church when you feel like a church misfit. I’d love for you to join me over there!***
For years I had to live with an extremely tight budget. Growing up as a child in a low-income home i learned early on what it was like to do without. When I reached adulthood I didn’t have a clue about how to do this adult thing, or how to budget. (You can read more about my struggle with learning basic life skills in the article I wrote for Scary Mommy). I spent a good 10 years making financial mistakes and not getting ahead. It wasn’t until almost 10 years ago now, while I sat down on the kitchen floor crying as my husband and I hit rock bottom with our finances that we decided we had to make some changes or we would NEVER. GET. AHEAD. My husband retrained for a new career, and 5 years ago was the last piece of the puzzle when I began this very blog.
I know what it is like to lay in bed staring at the ceiling, praying and asking God how in the world I am going to pay my bills. I know what it is like to be that kid on the playground with the shoe glue barely holding her shoes together after multiple repairs. I know what it is like to feel like I am a bad mom because I can’t give my kids more.
and yet….and yet we’ve managed to learn how to laugh, build memories, and grow closer as a family through it all. And we finally know what it is like to have sheer determination to change our future. We’ve gone from looking through a tunnel and seeing only darkness, to looking down that same tunnel and seeing beautiful, bright light.
It has taken us a long time to get here, with many bumps and bruises on the way as we struggled to live on one, low income for years. Because of what I learned I wanted to share it all with you! I want you to know you are not alone. I want you to know your worth is not defined by a dollar amount. I want you to believe in the depths of your core that the future can be bright, and you can change your finances.
