Why the Vitamix is Worth the Money even if You’re Frugal

If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, it wouldn’t take you long to figure out that I’m frugal. It would be completely acceptable if you thought a Vitamix blender is something I would never spend my money on. But a Vitamix is worth the investment, and I’ve got lots to say about why.
Many, many years ago I bought all the cheap blenders. You know the ones – they cost me maybe 60 dollars, and frankly, didn’t blend that well.
That gritty taste of kale in my smoothies didn’t encourage me to add my greens to my daily smoothie. But hey, at least the blender wasn’t that much money, right?
The problem was, as I added more smoothies to my diet, my blenders didn’t hold up. Because I was using my blender every day, sometimes even twice a day, the blender engine was struggling.
Actually, the engine of my blender wasn’t just struggling, they were burning out, yearly. And so every year I’d buy a new one. It was an annual event.
After way too many blenders I started to do the math. Was I actually saving money if I needed to replace the blender every single year?
The answer was no. And I’ll tell you why. You see, the Vitamix comes with a 10 year warranty.
10 years!!!!
That meant that the Vitamix would last me at least ten years and I wouldn’t have to pay for a new blender in that time. That means that the Vitamix, in the long-term, was actually cheaper for me!
Look, I’m a smoothie girl. Mom life basically requires it. Not enough time to make lunch? Make a smoothie. Want to eat a breakfast that you are guaranteed to be healthy? Make a smoothie. Having a good quality, well-functioning blender is basically a requirement in my life.
I’ve owned the Vitamix now for 12 years and it’s still going.
This is the thing about being frugal. The wise, frugal choice isn’t always getting the cheapest item in the moment. Sometimes in the long run you will save money by getting the more expensive item.
If you are constantly paying to fix or replace a product because it’s made cheaply and not made to last, that isn’t very frugal. In fact, you may be wasting your money.
The Vitamix blender has been worth every single penny that I paid for it, and I’m going to tell you all the reasons I love it, on top of the 10 year warranty that’s included.
WHY I LOVE THE VITAMIX
It pulverizes coarse greens.
I talked earlier about how my cheaper blenders just couldn’t grind up greens like kale the way I wanted them to.
The Vitamix is a powerhouse in this department. It pulverized greens so smoothly you will barely notice they are in your smoothie.
You can make peanut butter and hummus with it
The Vitamix is such a strong blender you can make more than just beverages.
You can make your own peanut butter or hummus in it which are healthier options than you will find in the grocery store. Not to mention, it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to make hummus at home than to buy it.
It’s fast.
The Vitamix is so quick, it really takes no time at all. Because it’s such a powerful blender it can blend up the food a lot quicker than a less powerful blender can.
It’ll heat your soup.
No, it doesn’t have a burner. The blender is just that powerful. The blades are moving so fast it’ll literally warm up your soup if you let it run long enough.
If you need it repaired, the company pays for shipping both ways.
The Vitamix is a bit of a beast. I can only imagine how much it would cost to ship for repairs. Thankfully, you won’t have to worry about paying for shipping under the warranty.
It comes with a tamper.
The tamper is the best tool that will make your life so much easier. It looks a bit like a big round stick and there is a hole in the lid of your blender that you can push the tamper through.
The tamper is just long enough that it can reach most of the food in your blender, and is short enough that it won’t hit the blades at the bottom of the pitcher. The tamper allows you to get food moving if it gets stuck. It’s a nice, easy way to help your machine do its job without needing to
You can make dairy-free milks with it.
Many people can no longer drink dairy (me included.) The Vitamix has so much power it makes it very easy to make almond, oat, or rice milk. You will want a nut milk bag to strain it once you are done blending it, but the Vitamix makes it a cinch to whip up all your dairy free milk alternatives.
BUT ISNT THE NINJA BLENDER JUST AS GOOD?
While the Ninja blender is a decent product for the price, it isn’t as good as the Vitamix, in my opinion. It won’t blend things as smooth as the Vitamix.
The other big issue is that the Ninja only comes with a one year warranty, and many people report that the blender only lasts 2-3 years at most. That’s with everyday use.
So, you are still stuck with the problem of regularly replacing your blender.
SHOULD I BUY A REFURBISHED VITAMIX?
The benefit of buying a refurbished Vitamix is that it’ll be cheaper. The downside is that you won’t get a 10 year warranty with it.
They do come with a 5 year warranty though, which is still a decent length. However, I wanted to invest in a blender where I knew it would give me at least ten years of life, so I decided against the refurbished models.
Bottom line, you need to look at the pros and cons when it comes to a refurbished blender and decide what fits your budget and what you want to invest in.
SO, SHOULD I BUY A VITAMIX?
After reading this post you may be thinking that surely I’ve been sponsored by Vitamix to write this post.
Well, the answer to that would be NO.
I have no been sponsored by Vitamix to write this post. I just love their product THAT MUCH that I wanted to share with all my readers why I think it’s worth the money to buy one.
As I said at the beginning, I’m a pretty frugal person. I rarely buy myself new clothes and will often wear them till they are falling apart.
Most of my furniture, dishes, clothes, and toys for the kids are secondhand.
But some things are worth the investment, and can even be cheaper in the long run if you pay more upfront. The Vitamix is one of those things, in my opinion. If you use a blender frequently, I definitely recommend buying one. Plus, I’ve only met one person who ever found an older model Vitamix at a thrift store. People who have a Vitamix generally don’t get rid of it, so the chances of finding it secondhand are slim to none.
If the initial price tag seems like too much (because many of us don’t have that extra money sitting around) consider putting a little bit of money away every month to save for it. Maybe you can save 1/2 or three quarters of the final cost, and if you have a family member who regularly buys you a Christmas gift or birthday gift, maybe they can contribute to the rest of your Vitamix expense as your present.
Either way, my final conclusion is that the Vitamix blender is definitely worth the money.
