10 Reasons to Live in the Country

In our fast-paced, busy world the allure of living in the country has become increasingly appealing. The tranquil landscapes, slower pace of life, and sense of community draw many individuals away from the bustling cities.

10 reasons to move to the country

Whether you’re considering a permanent move or just longing for a peaceful getaway, there are numerous reasons why living in the country can be a transformative experience.

For those of you who have followed this blog for awhile, you may have kept up with our personal country living story.  We moved to the country 7 years ago and stayed there for five years.  We planned to stay there forever, but you know what they say, “You start making plans and God starts laughing.”

God had other ideas for us, and lead us to move up north 7 hours away from our current place at the time.  Unfortunately, we just couldn’t find a country home at the time as our area has a very limited amount of listings due to a very low population.  So we got a small house, mortgage-free in town because, well, winter was coming and living in a trailer wasn’t going to be possible forever.

So, the past two years we have lived in a small town surrounded by plenty of forest (which makes it easier, that’s for sure.)  But our long-term goal is to move back to the country, and so we are watching and waiting to see what God has in store.

Therefore, even though we aren’t in the country right now, I can give you a million reasons why living in the country is so great.  If you are on the fence, check out the ten reasons below.

10 Reasons to Live in the Country

  1. It’s absolutely beautiful

One of the major attractions of country living for me  is the breathtaking beauty of the natural surroundings. Picture rolling hills, expansive meadows, and charming farmhouses dotting the landscape. Or in my area it’s pine trees, lakes, and the Canadian shield. Living in the country means waking up to stunning sunrises, breathing in fresh air, and being surrounded by a peaceful environment.  It’s a perfect way to start or end a day.

  1. You will experience tranquility and peaceful Living

Escape the chaos and noise of the city by embracing the tranquility of country life. The absence of honking cars, blaring sirens, and bustling crowds allows you to experience a newfound sense of peace. Imagine the joy of falling asleep to the gentle chirping of crickets and waking up to the sound of birds singing. Living in the country provides an opportunity to recharge, reflect, and find solace in the simple pleasures of life.

  1. You can be part of a close-knit community

Country living often entails tight-knit communities, where neighbors know each other by name and look out for one another. In these communities, people often come together for social gatherings, festivals, and support each other during times of need. The genuine sense of camaraderie and belonging fostered in rural areas can provide a strong support system and create lifelong friendships.

I will say, however, you can find tight-knit communities in small towns as well.  So, if you can’t move to the country, a small town like the one we live in comes in as a close second of best places to live!

  1. You may find affordable real estate

Compared to the soaring prices of urban housing markets, real estate in rural areas tends to be more affordable. This affordability can offer an opportunity to own a spacious home with a large yard or even invest in land for agriculture or other projects. Country living allows individuals to stretch their budgets further and attain a higher quality of life without the exorbitant costs associated with urban areas.

Now, there are plenty of high priced rural homes, but they tend to be closer to the cities, so if you are willing to be a little further out, you may be able to find what you are looking for.

  1. You will enjoy many health benefits

Living in the country can have numerous health benefits. With cleaner air, abundant green spaces, and fewer pollutants, residents often experience improved respiratory health. The availability of open spaces and natural areas also encourages physical activity, leading to a more active and healthier lifestyle. Additionally, studies have shown that country living can reduce stress levels and enhance overall mental well-being.

  1. You can experience a sustainable lifestyle

In the country it’s easier to develop a more sustainable lifestyle, as residents embrace practices such as organic farming, composting, and reducing waste by reusing what they have. The availability of local farmers’ markets and farm-to-table initiatives further supports sustainable consumption and fosters a healthier relationship with food.

  1. There are opportunities for outdoor activities

Living in the country offers a plethora of outdoor activities for individuals of all ages. From hiking, biking, and horseback riding to fishing, gardening, and stargazing, the possibilities are endless. The vast expanses of land provide ample room for exploration and adventure, allowing residents to engage in activities that promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

  1. You will escape from urban stress

The hustle and bustle of city life can often lead to stress, anxiety, and burnout. Country living provides an escape from this urban stress and offers a chance to slow down and prioritize personal well-being. The absence of constant traffic, long commutes, and crowded spaces allows for a more relaxed and peaceful way of life, fostering mental and emotional rejuvenation.

  1. You can discover unique cultural experiences

Rural areas often have their own distinct cultural experiences and traditions, offering a unique and enriching way of life. Local festivals, fairs, and events showcase the region’s heritage, arts, and crafts. Living in the country provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in these cultural experiences, gaining a deeper appreciation for the traditions and history of the area.

  1. You will develop a connection to nature

Last but certainly not least, living in the country allows for an intimate connection with nature. Whether it’s watching the changing seasons, observing wildlife, or tending to a garden, the countryside provides an unmatched opportunity to connect with the natural world. The abundance of green spaces, forests, and water bodies invites residents to embrace a simpler, more sustainable way of life and fosters a profound appreciation for the wonders of nature.

Living in the Country is amazing

Living in the country offers a multitude of benefits that can significantly enhance one’s quality of life. From the serenity and scenic beauty to the strong sense of community and connection with nature, the countryside provides a refreshing alternative to the fast-paced urban lifestyle.

Embracing a simpler, more sustainable way of life can lead to improved physical and mental health, a deeper appreciation for nature, and a greater sense of fulfillment.

Like anything, there’s pros AND cons to living in the country, but I believe there are way more advantages than disadvantages.

So, if you’re yearning for a change of scenery and a chance to rediscover life’s simple joys, consider the country as your next destination.
