Dipped Oreo Christmas Cookies
Simple and pleasing to the eye, these Christmas Oreos are a great option for when you need a cookie that looks as good as it tastes.
Today’s post is another guest post written by my 17-year old daughter, Alyssa.
Imagine you’re at a holiday party, making your way over to the desserts when you see… these cookies.
Look back at the picture and see for yourself; you don’t get much more “holiday aesthetic” than this. It’s perhaps the most festive treat you’ll find.
Going back to the holiday party scenario, let’s say you opt for one of these Christmas Oreo cookies, because they’re simply too pretty to pass up. (Though, those M&M Christmas cookies come in as a close second choice.)
You eye it with a little apprehension though. The amount of times you’ve gone for the “pretty” dessert, only to be let down by the taste has left you with a few cookie-related trust issues. The struggle is real. What if this attractive dessert is just like all the rest?
You decide to bite into it anyways, and it’s… actually delicious.
I mean, truth is, this cookie is pretty much a decorated Oreo, so if you like Oreos, you will 100 percent like this cookie. All of the reliable decadence of an Oreo cookie, with an elegant twist, these cookies are a win-win.
That’s not even the best part though. The best part is that these are actually very quick and easy to make. With these cookies, everybody wins. I don’t know about you, but that checks all of my boxes.
The other thing is that these are extremely versatile. I have Christmas sprinkles and candies listed here for toppings, but really, you could sprinkle them with crushed candy cane, drizzle milk chocolate on top of the white chocolate, or use whatever you have on hand.
You could even substitute one of the many different kinds of Oreo cookies for another flavor combination. Mint Oreos with white chocolate and sprinkles sound pretty fantastic to me.
That’s something that’s kind of nice about making desserts. You often don’t need any particular skills or artistry to begin, but if you have any artsy inclinations whatsoever, well, the world becomes your oyster.
A blank cookie becomes a blank canvas. Icing becomes your art medium.
You can mould pie crust into leaves and flowers. Trace patterns into a loaf of bread before sticking it into the oven.
Embellish your Oreos, because you can’t stand leaving anything bland-looking and because your creativity simply has to spill over into every aspect.
That’s me, personally. And maybe you don’t usually consider yourself an artsy person. If you don’t, don’t sweat it; these cookies don’t require a lot of artistic skills. They are very simple.
The thing about that though is it makes them an excellent start. If you try this and absolutely love being able to be a little creative, give yourself more opportunities to be artistic.
“But Alyssa, I’ve never been good at art,” you protest. Ah, I once claimed that too. Never say never, you might just find yourself doing the thing you least expected to be doing.
See, the term “art” is actually much broader than we generally consider it. When most people think art, they generally think drawings, paintings, and portraits. But there are so many other mediums, and sometimes finding out you’re actually good at art just takes finding which medium hits a little differently for you.
“Art” is simply the act of creating something and leaving a little piece of yourself in it. “Art” is the special touches that people can see and know that it was done by you.
“Art” is doing away with the boring and bland, the sleek and minimalistic, and embracing the eclectic things that give a house, canvas, item, dessert, or anything in between, personality.
Put your personality into these cookies. Have fun with them. Try those spur-of-the-moment creative ideas, and yes, some of them won’t turn out. But some of them will, and even the things that don’t just bring you one step closer to figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
Luckily, these cookies are really easy, and even if they don’t turn out quite the way you pictured them, they will still be delicious!
Why you’ll LOVE these Christmas Oreo cookies
You can make them gluten-free.
That’s right – they make gluten-free oreos and you can find them in A LOT of stores that sell their glutinous counterparts. Many gluten-free desserts are labor intensive but not this Christmas dessert.
They require NO cooking and are quick to make.
Sure, we love all the holiday baking, but also, the amount of baking we do at this time of year leaves us exhausted. These Christmas Oreos will be done in NO time!
You can use knock-off brands of cookies.
Life is expensive these days, am I right? Well, some stores sell generic brand cookies that resemble Oreos. They’ll still look just as cute!
