10 Household items to sell for Quick Cash

You can save a lot of money by practicing frugal living skills.  A while ago I wrote a post of 80 ways to live frugally for a nice big list of ways to save money.   Today, instead of sharing how to save money, I’m talking about how to make money with household items to sell for quick cash.

Because, sometimes there is just nowhere left to cut in your budget.  There is no more ways to save.  You are literally down to your last dollar and have implemented every saving strategy you can think of.  So what do you do when that happens?  The only alternative is to make more money.  You need to figure out how to bring in some extra income somehow.

There are so many ways to make money from home, and in another post I give 10 different ways to make money online from your computer. You can also check out my post that lists 17 Side Hustles to Make Money. Today, However, I want to share with you how you can save money by selling things around your house.

Clutter is a huge problem in many homes today and we often have things we don’t use anymore that are still in great condition.  We might as well make some money from the things we don’t need instead of letting them sit around and collect dust.

You can choose to have a yard sale, but some of my favorite ways to sell items are on online yard sale sites, like Craigslist (for US or Canada) or Kijiji (for Canada). I find you can charge a little more on there than if you just had a yard sale on your front lawn.  However, if you have a lot of items to sell, a yard sale is the way to go because you can sell a bunch of it all at once hopefully!

Here are 10 household items to sell for quick cash

Small kitchen appliances.  Do you have a blender you don’t use?  Crockpot?  Popcorn maker?  Sometimes we buy them with the best of intentions to use them, but they don’t get used and just end up taking space in our cupboards.

Exercise equipment.  This is a big one.  Exercise equipment is not cheap, and tons of people want to purchase the stuff at affordable prices.  For me, personally, I was able to buy my treadmill for $50 online! Mine is an older model with no bells and whistles, which is what I wanted.  For newer models you can definitely charge more.  January, is the perfect time to sell exercise equipment as people are making new year’s resolutions to get fit and exercise more.

Baby Items.  While you shouldn’t sell used carseats  and other baby items that have expiration dates, there are many things you can sell like clothes, bouncer chairs, playpens, toys, etc.  Baby items are a popular item to sell to make money.

Furniture.  There are some people who are uncomfortable with buying things like used couches.  However, there are many of us out there who are more than happy to find clean, gently used furniture online.  We’ve actually never had a new couch (though, to be fair, we’ve never actually purchased one ourselves, either, as all our couches have been given to us by people we know, secondhand).  But even if you want to pass on selling furniture with fabric on it, things like dressers, bookshelves, and tables are popular items to sell.  Many people like to buy furniture to paint and add their own personal touch to bring new life to an item.

Pet products.  Leashes, collars, crates, and food dishes are all things people are looking to buy secondhand.  If you have some you are done using, consider selling it.

Sports equipment.  If your child is in a sport such as hockey, you know first hand how costly the equipment can be.  If your child has outgrown or is done using some of the sports equipment, why not make some money from all the money you put into it to buy it originally?

Bicycles.  My kids have never had a new bike.  Actually, I, myself, have never had a new bike as well!  No one has suffered because of it. 🙂   Bikes are expensive, kids continually grow and need bigger bikes every few years, and many parents are looking to buy their child a secondhand bicycle.  Sell your outgrown bikes!

Video game consoles.  Kids and big kids alike love their video games.  Consoles are not cheap to buy brand new, and if you have one you are ready to part with you can make some decent cash from selling it online.

Children’s clothes.  Because kids outgrow clothes so quickly, many parents look for a secondhand option, especially when their children are really young.

Swingsets and other outdoor toys.  Years ago we bought a secondhand outdoor swing set for our children.  When they outgrew it, we sold it to someone else.  Along with swing sets you can sell kiddie pools, play structures, sandboxes, and whatever other outdoor toys your family no longer uses.

If you need to make some extra money, spend a weekend walking through your house looking for things you are ready to part with.  Look around your home and find household items to sell for quick cash. You know what they say, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.”  Instead of leaving it to sit in your house, or tossing it in the trash, if it is in good condition consider selling it online or at a yard sale to make some extra money.
